Setting up Computers for the Virtual Dig

Here are some hints for making sure that computers will work with the Virtual Dig Project.

  • Internet Explorer 5 for MacAlthough, the web sites are designed with a broad range of compatibility, we recommend the use of Microsoft's Internet Explorer
  • In the full version of the Virtual Dig, we use WebCT to deliver content.  WebCT has a browser tune-up that helps to assure compatibility.

  • Get Windows Media PlayerBe sure that you have installed the most recent version of Windows Media Player. Audio and some video are presented in this format.

  • Your will need the Real Player for one assignment.  There is a player available for MAC.  The link is at the bottom of the page

  • Get Macromedia Flash PlayerSome Movies will be in Flash format, as is the opening splash on the web site.  You will need the Flash Player.

  • To view the virtual tour, you will need Quicktime from Apple.  Versions are available for both MAC and Windows machines.

  • Sometimes we also present material using the Adobe .pdf format, as it preserves the look and feel of the original document.  You should install the Adobe Reader.
