Insula Project and a professor of theology and Greek at Concordia University, Saint Paul, Minnesota. Prof. Schuler is a member of the American Schools of Oriental Research, the American Institute of Archaeology, and the Society of Biblical Literature. |

John Klinkhammer -- I am a retired forester and good
friends with Darryl Schmidt. After thirty plus years on a public works
crew I have an unfortunate familiarity with shovels, picks and
chainsaws. Does the tree really have to go? Can I? Area Supervisor. |

Glenn Borchers, MS -- is a retired soil scientist,
NRCS USDA. Glenn also returns for a ninth season. His expertise in soils
and his knack for recovering spectacular finds make him a valued member
of the team. Glenn will handle delicate excavation work. |

Rachel Hedberg -- Concordia Chicago grad; back for
her fourth season; sharp archaeological eye; small finds registrar (aka
"sherd monkey"). |

Jim Appelbaum -- has worked at Emeritis Specialties
for 39 years as a senior lab tech. He is an Elder at Timothy Lutheran
Church in St. Louis, MO and is taking his fifth trip to Israel as a
volunteer. |

Dinah Appelbaum – I'll be
17 years old on July 21st. I go to Lutheran High School North and will
be graduating in 2012. I'm from Saint Louis, Missouri. And I'm really
excited for going to Israel, I've never been out of the country. |

originally from Michigan. This is her first year with the Dig, but is
looking forward to the experience of learning and growing. |

Christine Kreutz – The
only Canadian on this year's team, Christine is a graduate of the DPS
program at Concordia, Edmonton; similar to the DCE program of LCMS.
After Concordia, Christine changed career paths to pursue nursing, and
graduated from the University of Alberta in 2008. She currently holds a
position in Public Health. Christine loves learning and travel, and
combines the two whenever possible. |

Prof. Arthur Segal -- from the Zinman Institute of Archaeology at the University of Haifa and director of the Hippos excavations. Arthur has assembled an international team for what is now the largest such ongoing excavation in Israel. |

Dr. Michael Eisenberg -- is Arthur's assistant at the Zinman Institute of Archaeology. Michael coordinates the operations and publications of the excavation and also supervises some of the teams from the University of Haifa. |
