Dr. Mark Schuler Prof. Dr. Mark Schuler -- is the coordinator of the Northeast Church project and a professor of theology and Greek at Concordia University, Saint Paul, Minnesota. Prof. Schuler is a member of the American Schools of Oriental Research, the American Institute of Archaeology, and the Society of Biblical Literature.
Jim Appelbaum Jim Appelbaum -- has worked at Emeritis Specialties for 39 years. as a senior lab tech. He is an Elder at Timothy Lutheran Church in St. Louis, MO and is taking his second trip to Israel as a volunteer.
Dr. Arny Friend Dr. Arny Friend -- retired meteorologist for the USAF, farms in southern Illinois. Arny is back for a third season. The "Arny Net" traces its origin to his inspiration.
Darryl Schmidt Darryl Schmidt -- retired cop living in Missouri, arm chair archaeologist. Guess where this photo was taken?
Glenn Borchers Glenn Borchers, MS -- is a retired soil scientist, NRCS USDA. Glenn also returns for a fifth season. His expertise in soils and his knack for recovering spectacular finds make him a valued member of the team. Glenn will handle delicate excavation work.
Jim Rogers Jim Rogers -- A pastor from St. Louis. This is Jim's 6th year on the dig (and tenth trip to Israel). When he was a child he played in the dirt. Now he loves to play in the soil of Hippos.
Linda Miller Linda Miller -- mother of three with an M.A. in Theology from Concordia Irvine. Linda works as a Director of Christian Education and teaches for the local school district. In the near future she hopes to pursue her doctorate in Early Christian Studies 2008 will be her fourth season and she will be assisting Dr. Schuler with the small finds registrar.
Nancy Endicott Nancy Endicott -- is a mother of three from Wayne, NE and she loves those Huskers! She is returning for her third year.
Dr. Steve Chambers Dr. Stephen Chambers -- is Dean of Student Life and assistant professor of exegetical theology at Concordia Lutheran Seminary, Edmonton.
Gene Balding Howard "Gene" Balding -- attended Dallas Theological seminary and has been involved in the ministry for over 40 years. He is also very involved in international missions.
Carl Simmons Carl Simmons -- is a Communications Electronics technition living in the Mojave Desert of California.
Tina Simmons Tina Simmons -- is a fourth grade teacher and a first time volunteer at Hippos.
Daniel Walker Daniel Walker -- is a sophomore in high school and plans on giving the elders a run for their money atop Sussita.
Darren Siegle Darren Siegle -- is a pastor at Christ and Redeamer Lutheran churches in Alberta, Canada. He enjoys ancient history and is looking forward to going to the land about which he preaches and teaches.
Jessica Tewes Jess Tewes -- basketball superstar and art student from Concordia Saint Paul. Jess will be the team's illustrator this season.
Jacob Mueller Jake Mueller -- has just finished his junior year at Concordia St. Paul. He is in pre-sem program as well as a Family Life Education major. This is his first year volunteering and plans on "getting dirty in the trenches."
Jennifer Shack Jennifer Shack -- is a Director of Parish Services at Trinity Lutheran in Fisherville, Ontario. She enjoys being outdoors and music and looks forward to her first trip to Israel.
Michelle Heumann Michelle Heumann -- is a family law legal assistant in Calgary, Alberta. She has many interests and is finally fulfilling a life long dream of coming to Isreal.
Stephanie Pearce Stephanie Pearce -- is a sophomore at Concordia St. Paul in the DCE program. Originally from Chandler, AZ she enjoys long walks and racquetball.
Christine Mennicke Christine Mennicke -- is a freshman at Concordia St. Paul planning on majoring in math and biology, but also enjoys archaeology and astronomy.
Nikolai Nikolai "Niko" Gibbons -- is in the pre-sem program at Concordia St. Paul and plans on doing missions after Seminary. He is also in the Honors Program there.
Christopher Christopher Biernacki -- is going to be a junior at Concordia University, Wisconsin. He is majoring in Pastoral Ministry and theological languages. He enjoys history and learning about the ancient Christian Church.
Ian Wemyss Ian Wemyss -- is a first year seminary student at Concordia Edmonton, a sun seeker, and an Indiana Jones watcher.
Nathan Thompson Nathan Thompson -- is a pre-seminary student at Concordia, St. Paul and will graduate next spring in Theology and Mathematics. He grew up in new market where his family owns an apple orchard.
Ruth Kinppelberg Ruth Knippelberg -- is a mother and a grandmother. She is a retired elementary school teacher, but keeps busy volunteering at Good Shepherd Christian School and Grace Lutheran Church. She loves traveling and is looking forward to Hippos.
Dr. Jim Gimbel Dr. Jim Gimbel -- is an Associate Professor of Religion and Theology and chairs the Department of Christian Ministries at Concordia University, St. Paul. This will be his first dig –and has long been anticipated. He will be teaching a few classes online from the kibbutz
Andy Viken Andy Viken -- is a 16 year old sophomore in highschool. He plays 6 instruments (holy cow!) and is excited for the upcoming dig

Other Excavators
Arthur Si Arthur Segal -- from the Zinman Institute of Archaeology at the University of Haifa and director of the Hippos excavations. Arthur has assembled an international team for what is now the largest such ongoing excavation in Israel.
Michael Eisenberg Michael Eisenberg -- is Arthur's assistant at the Zinman Institute of Archaeology. Michael coordinates the operations and publications of the excavation and also supervises some of the teams from the University of Haifa.
Jolanta Mlynarczyk Dr. Jolanta Mlynarczyk -- from Polish Academy of Science, Warsaw. Jolanta co-directs the excavation of the Northwest church and is the ceramics expert for the entire excavation
Dr. Mariusz Burdajewicz Dr. Mariusz Burdajewicz -- from the National Museum, Warsaw. Mariusz co-directs work on the Northwest church with Jolanta and is a skilled archaeological illustrator.
