Mark Schuler, Th.D.
-- is the coordinator of the Northeast Church project
and a professor of theology and Greek at Concordia
University, Saint Paul, Minnesota. Since 1996, he
has traveled frequently to Israel for research and
teaching purposes. He has participated in the
archaeological excavations at Ein Gedi and Tiberias
sponsored by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Currently he works with the Hippos Excavation Project of
the Zinman Institute of Archaeology at the University of
Haifa. Prof. Schuler is a member of the American Schools
of Oriental Research, the American Institute of
Archaeology, and the Society of Biblical Literature, for
which he serves as the coordinator of the Upper Midwest
Region. |

Brian Roemen -- is a
student at Concordia and will be working on the
technical side of building the virtual dig web site and
will be our technician in Israel, posting material to
the web. Brian is a pre-seminary student and works for
Concordia's IT department. |

Ben Carnehl -- is a
history student from Concordia River Forest and a
first-time volunteer. |

Marc Hequet -- is a
journalist and return excavator. Marc will write most of
the background material and daily content for the
Virtual Dig. Marc is a journalist, a stringer for Time
magazine, former Missouri Synod Lutheran church
president and Sunday school teacher and youth-group
volunteer. He likes archaeology and history. And he has
dug for the past two seasons at Hippos. |

Jenn Mills -- 2004
grad of Concordia Saint Paul, English major, editor of
the Sword. Jenn is a journalist intern with
the dig. In addition to getting her finders dirty
in the dig, Jenn with work with Marc on the content of
the Virtual Dig |

Jim Rogers -- a
pastor from St. Louis who returns to the excavation team
for a second season. Jim prides himself in his
ability to excavate floors. |

Tim Schumacher --
curriculum developer and volunteer excavator. Tim is a
technology coordinator and teacher at St. Peter’s
Lutheran School in Edina, MN. He teaches history and
science to 7th and 8th graders. In his tech role, he
does everything from managing the network and web
services, to working with students beginning in
kindergarten, to supporting/leading teachers in the use
of technology. 3 years ago he completed a masters in
Educational Technology through Pepperdine University. |

Glenn Borchers, MA --
is a retired soil scientist, NRCS USDA. Glenn also
returns for a second season. His expertise in
soils and his knack for recovering spectacular finds
make him a valued member of the team. Glenn will
focus his efforts on the exhumation of the cist tomb. |

James Laatsch
-- a retired pastor from Arlington Wisconsin who joins the team as
a first-time
volunteer. |

Karen Laatsch --
with her husband James, she is also a first-time
volunteer. Karen will do some of the technical
drawings for the team. |

Stan Ostgren -- Stan
is a retired pastor from Nebraska. Although he has
traveled in the region before, this is his first dig.
He will be with us during the early part of the season. |
